Parkour, for those of us who are not sure what it is; is the sport that often involves jumping from one building to another, as seen in Nike ads, Madonna videos and James Bond films. Although, there hasn’t been any in Drouzin le Mont yet, I thought as it is accessible within about 20 minutes from Drouzin le Mont,  some of you may be interested as it is another thing to add to the climbing, biking, walking, rafting (and many more) activities available in and around Drouzin le Mont.

Parkour Generations  summer training camp returns to the Portes du Soleil after the success of 2011. This year they are organising two summer camps back to back starting from 15th July. The video above shows some of the 2010 summer camp in Avoriaz.

This years camps will be based in and around Morzine. For more information visit the Parkour Generations Website.

Lots of families took advantage of the opportunity to join the Cani Rando as the French call it or a Cani Hike and explore the local forest around Drounzin Le Mont. The fresh snow and clear skies added to the enjoyment.  The one hour hikes are open to anyone from 8 years old and led by a professional mushers who have their own team of huskies. The children (and parents) are  actively involved in carrying out the activity: contact with the dog sled, put the harness, control and conduct of the dog … and hugs. I noticed that some families even brought along their own dogs to enjoy the fun.

Getting the Huskies and Children ready

These hikes are organised throughout the winter, not only in Drouzin Le Mont, but around Lake Montriond and other parts of the Portes du Soleil, so contact the local Office de Tourisme for more information.

With the first snow now falling heavingly over Drouzin le Mont, we thought we give you a quick update about the improvements at this family friendly ski resort.

There has been extensive renovation of the lower ski pistes and nursery area this summer, building on the work done last summer 2010; This in effect improves accessibility to the Telesiege Drouzin (the main chair to half way station) and better access for beginners to the Frasse piste area; Beginners who do not feel ready to go to the mid-station directly from the nursery area will enjoy these runs through the woods as they provide the opportunity to increase the distance while having easy access back to the nursery area or up to the mid-station.

8 additional snowcannons on the lower part of Myritles and Violette have been installed.

A mid point exit has been created from the Teleski Lajoux (beginners drag-lift on the Nursery). This means that beginners who fall off the lift now have very easy access back to the nursery slope.

And a major overhaul of the Teleski le Muret drag lift.

This will all contribute to a great ski experience for the family this winter.

Have a great ski season.

Jeu-de-boules at Drouzin le MontFor those avid followers and players of the French game of bowls, you can now enjoy the new jeu-de-boules court and picnic area besides the tennis court on the Col Du Corbier. The use of the jeu-de-boules court is free, no booking is required; although some evenings you may have to wait, fortunately, benches and picnic tables are also provided.

For those not yet familiar with jeu-de-boules, it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet others and while away an evening in this family friendly resort. Drouzin Le Mont is a Ski resort in the winter, so the tennis and jeu-de-boules courts are usually closed from mid December to end of April.

Jeu-de-boules is also known as Petanque.
