Summer activities in the Alps
Where does one start?
You name it and it’s available close by!
There are regular local markets, fetes and community events throughout the year, check with the local tourist office on arrival or follow the other links on this website.
Actvities you can do:
- Nature trail for children (although adults are allowed to participate too)
- Tennis – there are many courts around – the one in Drouzin le Mont needs to be booked and costs €5 per hour
- Fishing – there are many places you can fish such as in Lake Montrion
- Horse riding/Pony trekking – at Montriond, St. Jean d’Aulps and Avoriaz
- Hang-gliding
- Swimming
- Water sports: Wide range of Sailing opportunities around Lake Geneva.
- Ice skating and ice hockey in Morzine.
Walking and rambling
There are literally hundreds of recognised walks at all levels, some which are even suitable for wheelchair users such as around Lake Montriond.Our favourite route is the Tour de Monzon where you get views over Lac de Leman and Mont Blanc.
Via Ferrata

A cross between rock climbing and scrambling. Takes between 1 & 4 hours depending on the route. There are 5 Via Ferrata routes close by all with easy access. A guidebook is available in the apartment. Want to have a go but not sure how to? then hire the equipment & a guide!
White Water Rafting, Canoeing and Hydrospeed
White Water Rafting, Canoeing and Hydrospeed are all available close by. There are several local companies that will happily arrange things for you.
During the summer the main chair lifts in the Portes du Soleil are open and do not only take hikers up but will, for a small fee also take you and your bike (prices). There are extensive Cycling & VTT routes at every grade. Be sure to get the map of the area with the routes marked on before you start.
Rock climbing
10 minute drive to Le Pas de L’Ours (78 intermediate and hard routes) and La Touviere (21 easy Routes) or near the Chauxvu de L’Abbaye in St Jean D’Aulps. There are a range of bolted routes at all levels and there are even climbing lessons available for children from the age of 6.
- 5 minutes walk from the apartment there are 20 bolted routes at L’Arblay. There are guide books available in the apartment or you can buy one in the local restaurant Chez Michel et Mado (subject to availability).
For you adrenaline junkies, Chatel also has one of the longest, fastest aerial runways in the world. This crosses over a valley with riders achieving speeds up to 70 mph.
